Playing with Colors: My Pastel Sketchbook Moments

The magic that emerges from effective collaboration is undeniable. When diverse minds converge with a shared purpose, the results can be transformative.

Lately, I’ve been having fun with oil pastels and simple sketches—no pressure, just letting colors do their thing. Here are three little pieces that came out of it.

A Cloudy Evening

In the first sketch, I tried to capture that magical in-between moment of day and night: deep blue sky, a crescent moon, and clouds glowing in pink, orange, and yellow. The trees below frame the scene, like looking out at a quiet horizon. It feels like a memory of summer evenings, where the sky refuses to let go of color.

Flowers on the Table

The second piece is more playful. A purple vase filled with yellow and green blooms sits beside a tiny plate of dessert, a fork, and a glass. It’s messy and imperfect, but that’s what I like—it feels like a snapshot of a cozy dinner table at sunset.

A Burst of Wildflowers

The last sketch is probably the most joyful: tall green leaves bursting with little orange, red, and pink flowers. It’s like a garden caught mid-dance, swaying in the breeze. I didn’t worry about neat lines—just wanted the colors to feel alive.

Why I Love Doing These

These drawings aren’t polished artworks—they’re small pauses in the day. Sitting down with pastels, smudging, layering, and watching unexpected shades appear is almost meditative. It’s less about the outcome and more about the process of letting colors spill onto the page.

So, here’s a reminder: you don’t need a perfect plan to create something. Sometimes, all you need is paper, color, and a little curiosity.
